Wakeman BGC's basketball leagues provide an environment for players to learn and improve upon the basics of basketball and practice good sportsmanship while having fun and making new friends.

Registration in any basketball program requires a current Wakeman Boys & Girls Club membership. Learn more about what the Club offers!

Pee Wee Basketball

Boys & Girls Grades 3-5 

Fee: $120 

 


Generations of boys and girls in grades 3-5 have had fun, learned fundamental skills, and made friends in our Pee Wee Basketball League!  Whether your player has been playing for a few years or never touched a ball, there’s a spot for them in Pee Wee. Players are assigned to a team that practices one weeknight from 6pm-7pm and teams typically play one game each weekend. Teams are coached by parent and other volunteer coaches who have completed WBGC Safety Trainings. All players attend an evaluation led by Club staff. Full details about the team placement process are provided after registration. 

Junior Basketball League (Boys & Girls Divisions)

Grades 6-8 | $115/player

Location: Southport Clubhouse Note: Smilow-Burroughs Club teams will play in a joint league with the Southport Clubhouse. SBC teams are expected to play the majority of their games at SBC.


Boys Junior League is the exciting place where 6th, 7th and 8th graders choose to play in a structured environment while learning the game and developing team skills and concepts. While traditionally a league for boys, girls are welcome too! Each grade group is scheduled to play in separate divisions however two grades may be combined based on registration. Players are assigned to a team that practices one night during the week (Monday-Friday based on participant’s availability) and play one game each weekend. Teams play a 7-game regular season and then a single elimination playoff to crown a champion in each division. Teams are coached by parent and other volunteer coaches who have completed WBGC Safety Trainings.

Travel Basketball

The Travel Basketball League at the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse offers players a unique opportunity to develop their technical skills and knowledge of the game while playing in the competitive Fairfield County Basketball League. Per FCBL rules, the Travel League at SBC is open to youth who reside in Bridgeport. Participants are trained by experienced coaches who are on staff at the Club. Players must tryout for the team and, if selected, must become a Wakeman Boys & Girls Club member. Fee for Travel Basketball season is $225.

Midnight Basketball

Ages: 14-21

Fee: Free!

Dates: Fridays & Saturdays, June 2-August 26 (No program 6/30 and 7/1)

Ages 14-17: 6pm-8pm Please note--all members under age 18 must leave by 8:00pm.

Ages 18-21: 8pm-midnight**

**Arrive before 10:30pm as doors will lock at this time.

Location: Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse

Registration is required.


Midnight Basketball at the Club is a collaboration with the Bridgeport Police Department, Hall Neighborhood House, and The Justice Education Center, Inc. The Club will be open Fridays and Saturdays for pick up basketball, supervised by Wakeman Boys & Girls Club staff and Bridgeport Police Department officers. Registration at the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse is required and can be done in person or online here. If you are new to Wakeman BGC, register as a non-member.
