Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is committed to providing high quality staff, facilities and programs for its members. The Club receives income from a variety of sources including grants, special event fundraisers, annual charitable appeal and program fees, but without these multiple sources of income, the membership fee alone would cost over $500 per child per year.
Wakeman Boys & Girls Club offers two modern facilities at the Southport Clubhouse and the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse in Bridgeport. In Southport, members have access to two basketball courts, a homework room, an arts studio, a game room, a weight training center and a technology room. Just outside the front door, there is a turf field where programs such as lacrosse, field hockey, flag football and rugby take place. An adjacent SportCourt surface features two outdoor basketball/tennis courts.
The Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse offers a basketball court, a homework room, an arts studio, a game room, a dance studio and a technology room. Outside there is a grass play space along with access to the Cal Ripken multi-purpose field, which is located one-quarter of mile away.
The McKinley Outreach Extension utilizes the school's library, science lab, gym and outdoor space to provide athletic and STEM enrichment classes along with mentoring programs.
Our facilities are open daily throughout the school year and on weekends and school holidays. The membership fee entitles all members to use either Club’s facilities on a daily basis. Bus transportation is provided from 14 Fairfield Schools to the Southport Clubhouse and 2 schools to the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse daily.
Membership also provides access to over 100 fee-based programs, leagues and classes including basketball, lacrosse, other sports programs, arts programs, Keystone Club, Torch Club, After School program at Smilow-Burroughs and numerous other top-quality programs. Wakeman Boys & Girls Club also offers a variety of day camps in the summer.
