McKinley Mentors & Teen Volunteers

About McKinley Mentors
Mentors are recruited from area high schools, with the majority being longtime Wakeman members, as well as a growing number of McKinley alumni. The mentoring program is coordinated by Tim Cepetelli, Wakeman Boys & Girls Club's Southport Unit Director, Coreen Ahmad, Wakeman Boys & Girls Club's Outreach at McKinley Coordinator, and Becky Miller, McKinley School's Social Worker. They are assisted by a dedicated Chaperone Team of long-time Wakeman volunteers. The Chaperone Team assists with interviews, orientations and daily supervision of program participants throughout the school year.

About Teen Volunteers
Teen volunteers are high school students who want to make a difference in the lives of children. Teens develop patience, compassion and knowledge while exploring careers working with youth, fulfilling community service requirements for their high school, or just giving back to others. Mentors are recruited, trained and supervised by Club staff. All volunteers commit to a minimum one season of the school year (fall, winter or spring), with many serving the entire school year throughout their high school years. The program is proud of its growing number of former mentees who have returned as mentors.
