Laura joined Wakeman Boys & Girls Club at the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse in 2011 as its founding Program Director. In 2015, she transitioned to the Resource Development team before becoming Unit Director in the summer of 2017. Since 2023, she has served as the organization's Director of Safety and Leadership Development.



Prior to her time at Wakeman BGC, Laura worked and volunteered with various non-profits in the region. She holds a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies from the University of Connecticut and earned a Master of Management from the University of Phoenix through the BGCA Emerging Leader Scholarship Program.


A recognized leader in youth development and safety, Laura is a BGCA National Trainers Institute Masterminds Trainer, with specializations in CAPE Safety and Trauma-Informed practices. She is also a certified American Red Cross instructor in CPR, AED, and First Aid, as well as a designated Praesidium Guardian.


Laura’s national accolades include being named a 2024 BGCA Safety Super Hero Awardee and receiving the 2025 Northeast Trainer of the Year Award.



Active in her community, Laura has participated in leadership programs such as Leadership Greater Bridgeport and the Leadership Development Roundtable. She is a founding board member of the nonprofit LiveGirl and serves as the Facility Management Advisor for Kappa Alpha Theta’s Sacred Heart University chapter.
