Southport Bus F.A.Q

Southport Clubhouse Bus Transportation F.A.Q

Can my child take the bus to Wakeman any day of the week they want?
Children are only allowed to take bus on the day of the week that they have been pre-registered through Wakeman. If your child is not scheduled to take the bus to Wakeman, but a family emergency makes it necessary for them to take the bus to Wakeman, call club and speak with Geoff Baranger before 12:00 at 203-259-4805. Transportation will only be provided if space is available on the bus.
What happens on scheduled or unscheduled half-days of school?

There will not be a bus available to Wakeman on scheduled half days of school (such as conference days or the day before Thanksgiving), or unscheduled half days (due to inclement weather or other unforeseen reason). Children will be responsible for finding their own transportation home from school.
What do I do if my child is sick and will not attend school?

When you notify school by phone to tell them that your child is sick, let them also know that your child will not take bus to Wakeman that day. This can easily by done by either phoning the school, or sending the child with a note. There is no need to inform Wakeman staff that your child will not be coming to Wakeman that day.
Is the Club open on snow days, days off from school and vacation weeks?
On snow/early dismissal days, Wakeman attempts to open the Clubhouse at 3:00pm. During severe weather, the Club may stay closed for entire day. On scheduled days off from school and vacation weeks, Wakeman is usually open 11:00am-9:00pm. As a member, there is no additional fee for your child to drop in on these days. Please view our Open Gym Schedule.

What should I do if I cannot pick up my child until later than expected?
Although the Clubhouse is open until 9:30pm every day, one or both gyms often close daily from 5:15-8:00pm for programs and the Computer Lab closes at 6:30pm daily. Children who often spend a long period of time at Club may run out of creative ways to stay busy. Parents should have two alternative people who can pick up their child in an emergency in case parents are running late. This is also important in case your child gets sick or hurt at the clubhouse and needs to be picked up early. Keep the phone numbers of alternative rides in your cell phone and at work.
How do I contact Wakeman?

The Southport Clubhouse phone number is 203-259-4805. Children can be reached at the Club, but the Club is a very busy place with many children and programs taking place, so phones calls should be limited to emergencies. Children may use the front desk phone to call their parents as needed.

Can my child leave Wakeman without a parent?

Yes, Wakeman is a drop-in Clubhouse, meaning children can come and go as they please. Many children walk, ride bikes, or get dropped off at the Club and some may also walk to local convenient stores. Parents should discuss their own expectations with children to be sure they reach an understanding of family rules.

What do I do if my child is in school, but will not take bus to Wakeman?
If your child leaves school early due to illness or other reason, let the main office know that your child usually attends Wakeman but will not attend that day. If your child is in school at regular dismissal time but will not take bus to Wakeman, you must send a note with your child in the morning to the main office.
