Laura joined Wakeman staff in 2011, first as Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse Program Director before joining the resource development team in 2015. Laura was named Unit Director of the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse in July 2017. Before Wakeman, Laura worked and volunteered at other non-profits in the region. Although she grew up in Fairfield, she sadly reports she was never a Wakeman member. However, Laura is a McKinley Elementary School alumna, and would have been proud to be part of any Wakeman programs, including McKinley mentoring! Back in her youth, Laura could have been found dancing, singing or acting. Today, she enjoys traveling to new places, networking, volunteering, and spending time with family and friends.
Laura earned a B.S. in Human Development & Family Studies from the University of Connecticut. In the community, Laura has been a part of many leadership programs including Leadership Greater Bridgeport and Leadership Development Roundtable. She sits on the founding Board of Directors for local nonprofit, LiveGirl, is the Advisory Board Chair of Kappa Alpha Theta’s Eta Xi Chapter at Quinnipiac University and Curriculum Group Chair for USAU Girls Ultimate Movement national program. In 2016, Laura was awarded the University of Phoenix - Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Emerging Leader Scholarship and is pursuing her Master of Management degree.
