Sports, Fitness, and Recreation programs help develop fitness, a positive use of leisure time, reduction of stress, appreciation for the environment and social and interpersonal skills. The Southport Clubhouse offers a variety of Sports, Fitness, and Recreation programs throughout the year.

Boys & Girls Grades 3-6

In a partnership with Pam’s Beginner Tennis, we are offering two 6-week sessions after school program this fall. This tennis program uses features from the USTA’s 10 and Under Tennis program. With 10 and Under Tennis, balls bounce lower, don't move as fast through the air and are easier to hit. Tennis racquets are sized for small hands, and courts are smaller and easier to cover. 

By using this format, the benefits are immediate, and within a short time kids are rallying, playing games, and wanting to play even more tennis. This means kids will have more fun and less frustration.

Classes will be held Thursdays, September 14th-October 26th.
3rd/4th grade will meet from 4:15pm-5:15pm and 5th/6th grade from 5:15pm-6:15pm.

Flag Football
Boys & Girls Grades 3-8

The Flag Football league will kick-off with a bang this year! Games will be held on Mondays for grades 3-5 and Wednesdays for 6-8th graders from 3:45pm-4:45pm and 4:45pm-5:45pm. The last two weeks will be playoffs. 

Every team will make the playoffs, season record will determine playoff rankings. Game schedules will be made available after evaluations. See evaluations/program dates below. Every player must attend an evaluation!

Conditioning 101
Boys & Girls Grades 8-10

This is an instructional class for 8-10th graders looking to take the next step in weight training. If your child is considering playing a fall or winter sport this is the motivation they’ll want! The class will focus on training every major group in the body and the best way to go about it. Participants will not just learn the proper ways of weight lifting they will learn how to build and maintain muscle. 

Classes will be held Thursdays, November 2nd-December 14th from 4:00pm- 5:15pm. There will be no class on November 23rd.

Fee: $60

Small Fry Fridays
Boys & Girls Grades 1-2

This program is a chance for all our “small fries” to participate in supervised athletic games in a friendly envi- ronment. Small fry Friday will be divided into two sessions consisting of three Friday dates. Classes will meet from 4:15pm–5:30pm.

Session I: September 15, 22 & 29
Session II: October 6, 13 & 20

Fee: $30

Speed Training
Boys & Girls Grades 6-8

Wakeman Boys & Girls Club is offering the opportunity for members in 6th-8th grade to be a part of a program that will focus on getting in shape and maintain your fitness levels. Certified personal trainers from Ozone Fitness will teach members how to get in shape by providing a variety of fitness activities, healthy nutritional guidelines, and running programs.

Members can set goals which they can keep track of as they progress through the sessions in turn improving their self- confidence and esteem. Trainers will assist in a hardworking but fun venture promoting healthy habits that will last a lifetime. 

Classes will be held Tuesdays from 3:45pm-5:00pm, September 26th-November 21st. No class on November 7th.

Weight Training
Boys & Girls Grade 8

Instructional classes are offered to 8th graders only. The session covers proper lifting techniques and workout methods on the machines in the weight room. The class also features a discussion portion on the benefits of a healthy diet and good nutrition. Once this course is completed 8th grade members are allowed to use the weight room. 

Classes will be held on September 15th and October 27th from 4:15pm-5:15pm.

Fall Wiffle Ball League
Boys & Girls Grades 6-8

Join Wakeman for the 2nd Annual Wiffle Ball League! Players who register will participate in an evaluation and be split up into teams of 4-5 players. We will be using standard Wiffle Ball rules and all games will be played on the Wakeman Turf Field. 

There will be a mandatory evaluation for all players Thursday, September 14th at 4:30pm-5:30pm. 

Games will be played Thursdays, September 28th-October 26th at 4:30pm-5:30pm

Kickball League
Boys & Girls Grades 3-5

Wakeman members are welcome to join the 2nd Annual Fall Kickball League. Participants are required to attend an evaluation on Friday, September 22nd from 4:00-5:00pm. Participants will then be broken into even teams and will vie for the championship. 

Games will be played Fridays at 4:30pm-5:30pm beginning September 29th-November 3rd. All players must be current members.

Munchkin Madness
Boys & Girls Grades 1-2

The Torch Club (7th/8th grade Club Community Service Group) will accept 30 participants into this session. They will split the children into three groups of 10. Two Torch Clubbers will coach each group. They will ex- plain games such as capture the flag, dodgeball, sharks & minnows, speedball, tennis baseball, and more! 

The Torch Club members will stress the importance of sportsmanship and ensure that everyone is having fun! There will be time spent in the game room as well. This class will meet on Tuesdays and run from

Girls 'R' Us
Girls Grades 1 & 2

This six week program will introduce girls to activities such as yoga, cheerleading, sports, and dancing. Guest instructors along with high school staff will give the girls an opportunity to have a good experience with many of these high paced activities. The girls will be able to develop confidence, while engaging in physical activity with their peers. 

Classes will be held on Thursdays, October 5th-November 9th from 4:00pm-5:15pm.

Friday Crew
Boys & Girls Grades 1 & 2

Don’t waste the winter days away, come down to Wakeman and join in on the fun! Our Keystoners will host a class for 1st/2nd grade members that will be sure to start any weekend right. This program will take place in our Art Room, where we will transform this space into a mini-gym type setting for dodgeball and athletics, have fun with a variety of messy experiments, and even test your taste buds with some edible challenges. 

Classes will be split by gender. Classes will meet on Fridays, from 4:15pm-5:15pm

Youth Grades 3-8 & Adult

Youth Yoga
Is your child ready to stretch and bend while relaxing their mind and body in a fun and light atmosphere? An instructor who specializes in Children’s Yoga will lead the class each week with different themes and introduce music and props to stimulate participants. Members will strengthen their self-confidence and increase their self-esteem while developing patience and learning skills to relax and concentrate. All flexibility levels are encouraged to participate at their own comfort level. If enough members sign up we will start a second class from 5:45pm-6:45pm.

Sessions I and II classes run Mondays 4:30-5:30.

Benefits of Yoga: Joints maintain their suppleness, reduce Stress, improve concentration and balance, relieve depression, soothe and calm nervous system, strengthen body, reduces osteoporosis, detoxify the body. It also enhances breathing and sense of well-being. It quiets the mind and helps let go of worries. It helps maintain a sense of living in the present, and puts less focus on the past and future.
