About our teachers:
Joan Shanley--Monday/Wednesday--Kripalu-style Hatha Yoga
Kripalu yoga is a style of hatha yoga that is very heart-centered pratice, emphasizing compassionate self-acceptance while inviting the student to inquire how best to connect-up his or her own body, mind and spirit. This deep connection to Self enables the student to experience the fullness of life. Intrinsic in the practice of yoga is healing and nurturing of joints and muscles coupled with meditative aspects, such as focused breathing techniques. Together, these techniques offer relaxation and a sense of peacefullness to the mind. This type of yoga encourages the student to: find their edges of comfort for increased wisdom of self, honor their body's inner wisdom, be the non-judgmental witness of their experience in every moment. It also encourages the student to integrate the teaching into their life off the mat.
Nicole Metchick--Tuesday/Thursday--Hatha Yoga/Vinyasa Style
Vinyasa is based on a progressive and fluid series of movements and postures. This yoga style uses breath awareness to help initiative and dictate a fluid sequence of poses- "a conscious evolution connecting each movement with unifying breath." The postures in Vinyasa serve to enhance oragn function, stimualte teh circulatory system, aid in digestion/elimination and to increase the body's natural detoxification process. This class creates a cigorous rhythm in the body to increase flexibility and muscular endurance and to encourage mindful living.
